Here’s another personal blog post…
When I was away on vacation, I met a pretty cool Optometrist named Wei-Chiu (or Vitu). He told me that he had lost about 30 lbs in a very short period of time by doing a unique form of running: ChiRunning. So, out in the hotel parking lot, I asked him to show me what it was all about. I like to stay fit and be active, so it was important to me.
The key to ChiRunning, he told me, was to use your body’s movement and energy in a way to avoid injury, stress, and strain. He taught me how to have proper posture, how to lean and use gravity to propel yourself, and how to relax. It was quite revolutionary for me. Wei-Chiu had learned everything from a book he found by accident in the library. That book was called “ChiRunning” by Danny Dreyer. Wei-Chiu eventually bought a few copies of the book, practiced what it preached, and ended up running in marathons! Wow! I was amazed.
As soon as I came back from my vacation, I ordered the same book. I’ve been reading it diligently and must say that it is quite impressive. It’s one of those books that you’ll read once and then keep coming back to in order to improve your walking, running, posture, etc. It even has some great principles which you can apply to every aspect of your life. Perhaps I’ll get into it more in my blog as I delve deeper into the art / science of ChiRunning.
By the way, some people are so very much into it (FYI, the book has sold over 200,000 copies wordwide) that they take courses by certified instructors!
